SPECIAL
MCSO PRESS RELEASE
March 2, 2011
Spring is just around the corner and it tends to bring out those that try to run scams on people.
Over the next couple of months we will highlight the most popular scams for you to avoid. We
have compiled our tips from various sources such as law enforcement, attorney general’s office
and others.
Watch out for high pressure sales tactics ~ Scammers often try to force you into making quick
decisions. They will tell you that it is a one day only deal or that there are other people
interested but they will let you have it first. The idea is to make you act and make a hasty
decision without validating what they say~
Avoid paying up front fees ~ This is absolutely true if you have no contract or some form of a
guarantee because once you sign a check or give them a credit card information you are at their
mercy~
Check with the Better Business Bureau ~Take a few moments to review the history, complains
listed and the resolved complaints and their rating with the bureau~ This is a good indicator as
to how they handle their business~
